Oops! Those early deadlines can be problematic sometimes.

In Parade magazine’s upcoming Feb. 11 issue, a Delaware reader submitted a question to “Walter Scott’s Personality Parade” about the health of Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, who shattered a leg in last year’s Preakness.

Parade’s answer: “‘The fractured right hind leg healed so well, he was out of his cast and walking daily,’ says Dr. Dean Richardson of the University of Pennsylvania, Barbaro’s chief surgeon. ‘But he developed a condition in his left hind hoof requiring surgery on Jan. 13. Since then, his comfort has improved, and he’s stable.'”

After Parade went to press, the horse unfortunately took a turn for the worse and was euthanized on Jan. 29.

Parade is distributed in more than 380 Sunday newspapers with a combined circulation of 32 million.
