Ed Shur Named Executive Editor of Two Gannett-Owned Ohio Dailies

Ed Shur, business/operations editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal, has been named executive editor of two Gannett-owned Ohio dailies: The News-Messenger in Fremont (12,606 Mon. ? Sat. circulation) and at the News Herald in Port Clinton (5,572 Mon. ? Sat. circulation). He has filled the position, left vacant when Dan Bowerman left the company, since April 10.

Shur, 53, previously served Gannett as business/operations editor since 2000. In 1998 that he was named senior projects/Sunday editor and then operations/senior projects editor in 1999. He joined Gannett as projects/Sunday editor at Reno in 1996.

After receiving a bachelor?s degree in journalism from the University of Rhode Island, in 1978 Shur began work as news director at radio stations in Rhode Island, Delaware, and Maryland and as night editor at the Carroll County Times in Maryland.

He joined the Baltimore Sun as Howard County bureau chief in 1984 and became Carroll County bureau chief later that year. In 1992 Shur was named the Sun?s metro night editor and became executive ditor and general manager at Minnesota Sun Publications in Bloomington, Minn., the next year.
