Editorial Boards of Los Angeles Times and Boston Globe Call for Trump’s Impeachment

The editorial boards at two of America’s top newspapers have called for President Trump’s impeachment in recent days.

“Impeach the president,” read the editorial in Friday’s edition of The Boston Globe.
And the Los Angeles Times published its editorial board’s conclusion on Saturday: “We’ve seen enough. Trump should be impeached.”

As a newspaper owner and publisher with more than 25 years of experience working at newspapers throughout the Midwest, I find it laughable that any newspaper talks down to their readers with political endorsements or, in this case, call for the impeachment of President Trump.

As journalists. As publishers. As newspaper owners. Are we smarter than our readers? They can form their own opinions by observing what information is provided.

This is an outstanding way to lose subscriptions and advertising support.

Note to newspapers: Stick to objectively sharing the news of the day, and you and your readers will be better for it.

Thank you, Mr. Sethre. Here in New England, nobody is surprised at the Boston Globe’s editorial. They’re pretty predictable.
I founded my paper 23 years ago, and sold it 6 months ago. I never endorsed anybody for the exact reason you note: “Are we smarter than our readers?” Yes, we may be more informed by the very nature of our work. Our job is to present facts and let readers distill them. But are we so smart? In time, “We The People” will decide if the Democratic Party’s unilateral move to impeach is justified, or not. In the meantime, most people won’t much care what big city editorial writers have to say. That’s just the way it is now.
