Jim Morin of The Miami Herald is this year’s winner of the $10,000 Herblock Prize for editorial cartooning, the Herb Block Foundation has announced.
Morin will be awarded the prize April 4 at a Library of Congress ceremony that will feature former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw as speaker.
“He just gets better and better,” said editorial cartoonist Jeff Danziger of Morin. Danziger, who won last year’s Herblock Prize, was a judge in this year’s contest.
Morin — whose Herald work is distributed by the Cartoonists & Writers Syndicate/New York Times Syndicate — joined the Miami paper in 1978. He won the Pulitzer Prize in 1996.
Herblock died in 2001 after a 72-year editorial cartooning career, much of it at The Washington Post. He requested in his will that the Herb Block Foundation be created.
