Tomorrow marks the official 50th anniversary of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists, although the AAEC won’t really mark that milestone until its July 4-7 convention in Washington, D.C.

AAEC Secretary-Treasurer V. Cullum Rogers recently discovered that the organization’s incorporation papers were signed in the presence of a notary public on Feb. 28, 1957, reported EditorialCartoonists.com, the AAEC’s Web site.

Rogers — a cartoonist for The Independent Weekly in Durham, N.C. — uncovered the “birth certificate” while doing research for the “Golden Notebook” 50th-anniversary AAEC publication that will be released in conjunction with the July convention.
