The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists has until May 31, 2007, to raise $15,000 to match an equal-sized grant announced this fall.
AAEC’s grant is from the Challenge Fund for Journalism, which also has contributed money to various other journalism organizations.
Those working on the fund-raising campaign for the AAEC include immediate past president Clay Bennett of The Christian Science Monitor and Christian Science Monitor News Service; secretary-treasurer V. Cullum Rogers of The Independent Weekly in Durham, N.C.; and general manager Elissa Doyle. One aspect of the campaign involves setting up a system to receive donations via the organization’s EditorialCartoonists.com site.
The AAEC — which turns 50 next year — uses grant money for such things as the public area of its Web site and its “Cartoons for the Classroom” program.
