Eight daily newspaper production sites, each under different ownership, have installed the PrintExpress ink optimizer module from alfaQuest Technologies Inc., Rolling Meadows, Ill.
Now using the module are the Las Vegas Review-Journal, The Wichita (Kan.) Eagle, Youngstown, Ohio, Vindicator, Treasure Coast Newspapers, Stuart, Fla., San Antonio (Texas) Express-News, Dayton-based Cox Ohio Publications, The Gazette, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the Bay Area Newspaper Group, San Jose, Calif.
As an integral part of the PrintExpress workflow, the ink optimizer requires no additional hardware or software. Gray component replacement occurs on the fly in the RIP, adding no processing time to production. The module applies optimization to all color, regardless of source file. Users may configure the module for various levels of ink savings.
According to alfaQuest, color ink savings exceed 30% while maintaining color integrity.
