Independent Press Association has ceased operations due to financial problems.

IPA — founded at the 1996 Media & Democracy Congress in San Francisco — provided technical assistance, access to capital, and newsstand distribution services to more than 400 member publications. They included newspapers and magazines such as Harper’s, Mother Jones, Ms, and The Nation.

The nonprofit IPA was headquartered in San Francisco.
