Enfocus, a business unit of EskoArtwork, Gent, Belgium, and Enfocus Crossroads, the online community for Enfocus Switch users and partners, will demonstrate newspaper workflow automation tools at IFRA Expo, Hamburg, Germany, Oct. 4-6. Enfocus created Switch 09 products and the recently launched PitStop Connect enable users to raise productivity and profitability.

Creating an interface for products in publishing workflows, Enfocus Crossroads brings Enfocus Switch users, Crossroads partners and Crossroads integrator partners together to reduce manual intervention – and the attendant time and potential for errors – in production. Using Enfocus Switch, the Enfocus Crossroads community enables users to analyze the efficiency of their workflows.

Enfocus Crossroads partners collaborate to develop multi-vendor automation workflows for customer-specific business issues. At IFRA Expo, Enfocus will present multi-vendor automation solutions together with the following Enfocus Crossroads partners:

Enfocus Switch enables automation of third-party applications. The latest release, Switch 09, makes it easier to create and edit workflows, includes more powerful tools for larger environments and features a completely renewed SwitchClient.

Automating many repetitive tasks at newspapers, Switch improves accuracy and minimizes errors while freeing employees for more challenging activities. Its entry-level version, LightSwitch, is upgradeable to FullSwitch, which that includes configurators to easily integrate with third-party applications. FullSwitch may be upgraded to PowerSwitch, which further extends automation through custom scripts and metadata support (including JDF, XMP and XML).

PitStop Connect is a new desktop tool to ensure  that PDFs meet specifications, Enfocus says, by connecting creative professionals and printers/publishers. The tool enables printers and publishers to create Connectors, which can be branded for designer/creative professionals and contain PDF specifications for preflight. Once a PDF file is dropped on a Connector, preflighting will start based on the specification. When passed, the file is uploaded to the printer or publisher, which may then also decide to receive “Certified Not ok” PDF files or non-PDF files. A printer/publisher can create and distribute as many Connectors as needed.

PitStop Connect also serves as a link to other Enfocus automation products, connecting seamlessly to Switch and PitStop Server, according to Enfocus, so that “received files can be quickly and easily sorted, managed and processed within Switch at a level of end-to-end automation.”
