Erik Smist has been promoted to vice president and CFO at The Sun in Baltimore. He was recently controller, a position he has held since 1998. In his new role, Smist will be responsible for financial analysis and reporting, budgeting and planning, credit and collections, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
“As we continued to navigate through the changing media landscape, [Smist’s] proven leadership abilities make him an excellent choice for CFO,” Rondra Matthews, publisher of the Sun, said in a statement.
Smist, 43, joined the Sun in 1986 as a district manager in the circulation department. He moved to the finance department in 1991.
