Mort Rosenblum, who reported from more than 100 countries during a 1967 to 2004 career at the Associated Press, has authored a book slated for Oct. 2 release from St. Martin’s Press.

It’s titled “Escaping Plato’s Cave: How America’s Blindness to the Rest of the World Threatens Our Survival.”

In the book, Rosenblum discusses how Americans can and must learn more about what’s really happening in the Mideast, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America when it comes to matters such as war, peace, education, business, and the environment.

“All people want dignity, safety for their kids, enough to eat, the most basic of health care, water,” said the author in an e-mail. “Few of these goals can be delivered at gunpoint.”

Rosenblum now teaches international reporting at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
