James N. Crutchfield has been named the inaugural Edith Kinney Gaylord Visiting Professor in Journalism Ethics at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication of Arizona State University. A four-time Pulitzer Prize juror, Crutchfield was one of the nation?s only African American publishers of a major metropolitan paper.
Crutchfield will join the school in its spring semester, teaching a new required undergraduate course titled ?Journalism Ethics and Diversity.?
Most recently, Crutchfield was publisher and president of the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal, from which he stepped down following the sale of Knight Ridder newspapers, having worked at the paper since 2001.
