John O’Brien, a former chief financial officer for The New York Times Co., is joining the board of directors of Hollinger International, publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times and other papers, the company announced Thursday.
O’Brien will be a member of the board’s audit committee, the company said.
In a statement, Hollinger Chairman and CEO Gordon A. Paris said the company’s ability to recruit a newspaper industry veteran such as O’Brien “reflects the strides Hollinger International has made over the past two years.”
O’Brien retired from the Times Co. in 2001 after 41 years with the publisher. He was named CFO in 1998.
