The News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla., announced Wednesday morning that former Executive Editor Terry Eberle is returning to the same position.

The announcement was made to News-Press staff by News-Press publisher Carol Hudler.

Eberle served as executive editor at the News-Press from June 1995 to January 2001, and left to become vice president and editor at the Indianapolis Star. In January 2003 he left the Star to take the executive editor position at Florida Today. Under his leadership, Florida Today was named Gannett’s Paper of the Year in 2006. The paper has been ranked as one of Gannett’s top five newspapers each of the last four years.

Eberle is replacing Kate Marymount, who succeeded him when he left the paper. Marymount left the News-Press in April to become Gannett’s Vice President of Content for the company’s U.S. Community Publishing Division.
