A “Dear Abby” column helped reunite a son and mother, according to a South Bend (Ind.) Tribune article cited by Universal Press Syndicate.
Timothy Penkula of San Diego met his birth mother, Patricia Foreman, in South Bend this month because he was motivated by a “Dear Abby” column to contact a national adoption agency. Penkula, 51, began the long search for Foreman after reading the “Dear Abby” column nearly 20 years ago.
Foreman had given Penkula up for adoption in 1954 because she was an unwed teen earning only 50 cents an hour. She later married and had four other children. Coincidentally, Foreman and Penkula lived less than a mile from each other at one point.
“Dear Abby,” written by Jeanne Phillips, appears in more than 1,400 newspapers via Universal.
