“The Argyle Sweater” comic by Scott Hilburn launched yesterday with more than 130 print and Web clients, according to Universal Press Syndicate. That’s a higher number than most new launches these days.
Universal said some of the newspapers signing the offbeat panel include the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Houston Chronicle, Washington Post, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and the New York Daily News.
“The Argyle Sweater” started in fall 2006 on the Web group Comics Sherpa, which is managed by uclick — a sister company of Universal. In December 2006, Hilburn’s cartoon feature was “promoted” to GoComics.com. Soon after, it was placed under development by Universal.
Hilburn is a Texas native who has worked much of his adult life creating interactive media for telecommunication companies.
