Unipress, Granja, Portugal, ordered a shaftless, doublewidth, 560mm-cutoff Uniliner press from Goss International to provide added color capacity and pagination for its newspaper products.
The Uniliner is the first designed to run at a maximum speed of 80,000 copies per hour and the first to be installed in Portugal.
The press will be specified with the latest technologies, including Goss DigiRail digital inking, automated color and cutoff register controls, and automatic web-width change, from 1300 to 1600 mm.
“We made our investment decision based on the flexibility of the Uniliner press. The ability to change our web widths automatically, provides us with fast and efficient changeover of products with minimal down time,” Unipress General Manager Antonio Costa said in a statement. Costa also cited the “active role played by Goss International’s agent for Portugal, Tecnimprensa, during the press lifetime.”
Capable of producing 64 full color tabloid pages in collect mode (a 200% increase in color capacity over the publisher’s existing press line), the Uniliner will be configured as two four-high towers and two reelstands. The units will be installed at 90 degrees to the press line in order to cope with space limitations. The order also includes a 2:5:5 jaw folder and ink presetting from the RIP.
Unipress will continue to use its Goss Universal 45 press after the Uniliner is installed in spring.
