Regulators may finish reviewing the newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership rule by the end of this year, said Federal Communications Commission Chairman Michael K. Powell. His remark came in answer to a question at a broadcasters’ convention in Las Vegas this week.
The FCC is deciding whether to repeal, relax, or retain the rule barring common ownership of a daily newspaper and a broadcast station in the same market. Since the FCC began the review in September, courts have told it to examine other media ownership restrictions, too.
