The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Thursday signaled it would re-evaluate its rules on telemarketing.
The FCC appears to be following the lead of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which addressed the issue in January. Likely to take effect next year, the FTC’s rules would affect interstate calls only, thus leaving untouched newspaper subscription drives within a given state.
On Thursday, the FCC also repeated its pledge to review its rule banning common ownership of a daily newspaper and a broadcast station in the same market. No decision is expected before next spring.
