Paul Barrett, who launched a weekly newspaper in Mississippi two years ago, is the new publisher of the Finger Lakes Times.
The 54-year-old Barrett has worked in the newspaper industry for nearly 30 years, spending most of that time running mid-sized dailies. He and a partner founded The Review in Laurel, Miss., in 2006.
A Mississippi native who grew up in Memphis, Tenn., Barrett began his career in Dallas with Royal Publishing and did stints at Thomson Newspapers, American Publishing and Community Newspaper Holdings.
The Times, which has a daily circulation of around 15,000, is owned by Community Media Group of West Frankfort, Ill. Barrett replaces Wayne Hemstreet, who retired as both publisher and vice president of Community Media.
