‘For Better’ Wins Poll As N.H. Paper Shakes Up Comics Section

By: E&P Staff

“For Better or For Worse,” by Lynn Johnston of Universal Press Syndicate, was the most popular strip in a Portsmouth (N.H.) Herald reader survey that also resulted in four comics being added and nine dropped.

Those canceled included “B.C.,” “Cathy,” “Frank & Ernest,” “Mallard Fillmore,” “Marmaduke,” “Nancy,” “Rose Is Rose,” “The Born Loser,” and “Ziggy.” Those joining the Herald are “Lio,” “On a Claire Day,” “Stone Soup,” and “Zits.”

The newspaper dropped more features than it added in order to run the remaining comics larger, as part of a redesign.
