Bill Sorrels, a former managing editor of The Commercial Appeal in Memphis and chairman of the journalism department at the Mississippi University for Women, has died at the age of 83.
Sorrels died Saturday at Veterans Hospital in Kosciusko. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in West Point.
Sorrels worked as a reporter at the Daily Times Leader in West Point until 1953. He also worked as a reporter at the Honolulu Star Bulletin, managing editor of The Commercial Appeal and editor at the Evansville (Ind.) Press.
In 1984, Sorrels began teaching at MUW.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a daughter; a son; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister.
