Former Publisher Runs For Wyo. Gov.

By: Mark Fitzgerald

Bill Sniffin, who owned and published the weekly Lander (Wyo.) Journal for nearly three decades, is running for governor of Wyoming.

“Bill was one of the Young Turk publishers who started working here in the 1970s — hard-driving, aggressive, good newspapermen,” Wyoming Press Association Executive Director Jim Angell said.

Sniffin sold the Journal in 1999 to the Peck family, but still publishes a weekly in Winner, S.D. One of three Republicans in the primary, Sniffin is campaigning on a platform that includes strong opposition to a state income tax.
