A Hartford Superior Court judge has ruled that a former newspaper reporter will stand trial on a murder charge in a fatal shooting.

The judge issued the ruling against 64-year-old J. Gregory Robertson following a probable cause hearing. Robertson is a former Hartford Courant reporter and editor who later worked as press secretary for Mayor Carrie Saxon Perry.

Robertson was arrested August 12th, four days after police say he shot and killed 56-year-old Ralph Colon of Hartford, during a confrontation on Robertson’s third-floor fire escape.

Police initially thought Robertson shot Colon as Colon and his best friend, Jesse Huertas, were trying to break into the apartment. But investigators concluded that no break-in was intended.
