The usually nonpolitical “FoxTrot” comic yesterday discussed alleged election tampering by Republicans and the apathetic response to this assault on democracy by many citizens and media outlets.

In the Halloween-themed strip, 10-year-old Jason is shown dressed as an electronic voting machine. He says: “Computer experts have been warning for years that these things can be easily hacked. And without a paper trail, there’s no way to verify the vote counts weren’t tampered with. Now, here we are nine days before elections, and reportedly one-third of all jurisdictions will use them. Seriously, can you think of anything scarier?”

His brother Peter replies: “Jason, most people don’t care about this stuff.” To which Jason notes: “Hmm, that was a pretty good answer.”

Bill Amend’s comic appears in more than 1,000 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate.
