Yet another editorial cartoonist has lost a staff or freelance job — this time in New Jersey’s capital city.

The Trentonian in Trenton dropped Rick Cole’s freelance editorial cartoons as a cost-cutting move, EditorialCartoonists.com reported today.

Starting in late 2002, Cole had a contract with The Trentonian to do two cartoons a week — mostly on local issues. An editor informed him by e-mail that the newspaper had “a major issue with freelance expenses that we need to take care of.”

Cole told EditorialCartoonists.com: “Freelancing editorial cartoons is certainly something you don’t do for the money — I miss the creative outlet it provided and I hope to find another freelance gig soon.”

EditorialCartoonists.com is the Web site of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
