Yet another editorial cartoonist has lost a staff or freelance job — this time in New Jersey’s capital city.

The Trentonian in Trenton dropped Rick Cole’s freelance editorial cartoons as a cost-cutting move, reported today.

Starting in late 2002, Cole had a contract with The Trentonian to do two cartoons a week — mostly on local issues. An editor informed him by e-mail that the newspaper had “a major issue with freelance expenses that we need to take care of.”

Cole told “Freelancing editorial cartoons is certainly something you don’t do for the money — I miss the creative outlet it provided and I hope to find another freelance gig soon.” is the Web site of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
