A new Gallup survey released today finds that most Americans will be rooting for the Colts in Sunday’s contest, and they expect that team to win — but that 1 in 3 will be watching the game mainly for the commercials.

An even higher number — 41% — of younger viewers (18 to 49) will watching primarily for what happens between the action on the field. Not surprisingly, twice as many women vs. men watch for the ads.

Six in ten will root for the Colts and about the same number predict they will win.

One reason for the Colts popularity may be that 28% of fans say quarterback Peyton Manning is the greatest active player, compared with 14% for LaDainian Tomlinson and 9% for Tom Brady. Joe Montana was selected as the greatest player of all time, followed by Walter Payton and Jim Brown.

The national survey of 1,008 Americans was taken last week.
