The weekly Clinton (Miss.) News is folding Aug. 5, with its Gannett Co. sibling The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson taking over coverage of the community.
In a letter to readers, Clinton News President and Publisher Larry K. Whitaker said the expanded coverage of Clinton by the daily Clarion-Ledger is “something that the community has wanted for many years,” and will allow for more coverage of Clinton on the Web.
“The Clinton News has been a viable part of this community for many years, and despite our best efforts to keep the newspaper profitable, the retail advertising base no longer exists to support the publishing of a weekly newspaper,” Whittaker wrote.
He said a full-time reporter will be assigned to cover Clinton community news, and that the daily will “provide a means for Clinton advertisers to reach their customers both in The Clarion-Ledger and at clintonnews.com,” the weekly’s Website.
