GANNETT SHUFFLES EXECUTIVES, EDITORS

New Editor Named In Rochester, N.Y.


Gannett Co. Inc. recently announced a number of executive changes
in its newspaper division.

The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester, N.Y., named Karen
M. Magnuson, 43, its new editor and vice president of news. She
has served as managing editor since September 1999. The
Democrat and Chronicle’s previous editor, Thomas E.
Callinan, recently become editor of The Arizona Republic
in Phoenix.

Also at the Republic, John M. Zidich became executive vice
president after serving as president and publisher of the
Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal.

Fred H. Hamilton succeeds Zidich in Reno, after serving in the
same position at The Olympian in Olympia, Wash.

Robert W. Ritter, vice president/news and editor of The
Journal News in Westchester, N.Y., succeeds Hamilton in
Olympia.

In Westchester, Henry M. Freeman steps up from his former
position of vice president/special projects.
