Gannett Takes Stake In Online Family Scheduler Cozi

Gannett Co. Inc. said Thursday it has bought a minority stake in Cozi, a free Web service that helps families manage schedules and stay in touch.

Gannett said it will market Cozi in print and online through its 85 dailies, including USA Today.

As a result of its unspecified equity investment, Gannett will also get a seat on Cozi’s board of directors.

Cozi launched in the fall of 2006 and now has more than 600,000 family members, Gannett said.

Cozi allows families to organize activities by providing a central family calendar, customized shopping and to-do lists, a family blog and messaging tools to stay in communication.

The service can be accessed from computers or mobile phones.

“Cozi has created a rich and relevant experience that helps families navigate their busy lives,” Michael Maness, Gannett’s vice president of design and innovation said in a statement. “Our partnership powers a new platform to deliver our local content through a technology specifically designed for the family.”

Gannett said it would collaborate with Cozi in the creation of “product innovations that tap into Gannett’s deep local content, information and calendar data.”
