Mark J. Winkler was named president and publisher of The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Calif., Monday. Gannett Co.’s U.S. Community Publishing also appointed Winkler as vice president of the West Group, overseeing its properties in Visalia, Tulare and Salinas, Calif., and Guam.
Winkler was most recently executive vice president, chief sales officer, and chief marketing officer for the MediaNews Group in Denver.
“Mark is an aggressive and experienced multimedia leader and one who will lead The Desert Sun to best serve the interests of our customers and communities today and into the future,” Laura Hollingsworth, West Group president of U.S. Community Publishing, said in a statement.
Before his position at MediaNews Group, Winkler was COO for Capital Securities Real Estate, LLC, a global real estate investments fund. From 2000-2006, Winkler was a division vice president/general manager for Comcast Communications.
Winkler replaces Richard Ramhoff, whose deaprture was announced last week by Gannett, which said he would be taking a new assignment within the company.
