Donrey Media Group of Las Vegas has invited Gannett Co. Inc. to help develop Donrey’s Hawaii.com, a tourism and entertainment portal. Under the terms of the agreement, announced Thursday, the two companies will jointly operate and develop the site.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Donrey purchased the Hawaii.com domain in the spring of 2000 and has run the site along with community partners such as the state government and the local NBC affiliate. Donrey owns two daily newspapers in Hawaii but doesn’t have a print presence in the state’s largest city, Honolulu.
Gannett owns The Honolulu Advertiser, which will now contribute content to Hawaii.com. Gannett will also drive traffic to Hawaii.com through its network of 100 Web sites including USAToday.com.
Donrey also owns another big tourist destination — LasVegas.com. Donrey publishes the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
