GateHouse Media Inc. said Monday it had completed the previously announced sale of The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington, W. Va., and related publications for $77 million to Champion Publishing Inc., a local commercial printer.

Fairport, N.Y.-based GateHouse acquired the 28,000-circulation Herald-Dispatch along with several other papers in a deal with Gannett Co. in May. GateHouse said that from the start it did not consider the paper “a good strategic or geographic fit” with its other 87 dailies in 20 states.
