GateHouse Media’s New England division is partnering with TownConnect for social networking and other community tools for GateHouse’s 159 Wicked Local town Web sites in Massachusetts.

TownConnect is an exclusive, private online service designed to help people organize their lives.

The co-branded Wicked Local People sites will allow users to participate in a free and secure network where they can easily organize online communities, share photos and files, and connect with others.

“When we launched the Wicked Local network last fall, we wanted to combine professional journalism, lots of community information, and lots of opportunities for residents to interact with us and with each other,” Kirk Davis, president of GateHouse Media News England, said in a statement. “Working with TownConnect allows us to take that interaction to the next level-immediately.”

The network is also providing special classroom tools designed for teachers to provide a secure online environment to communicate with students and parents.

The alliance also brings GateHouse expanded advertising inventory. GateHouse said that currently inventory is sold out on some of the most popular Wicked Local town sites.
