Gene Williams, managing editor of news and new media at the Cape Cod Times in Massachusetts, has been chosen as the new executive editor of The Star Press.
The announcement was made today by President and Publisher Juli Metzger, according to the paper’s Web site.
Williams, 58, assumes the position Sept. 24. He succeeds Tammy Pearson, who left the newspaper this summer.
Williams, a 1971 graduate of Kent State University, has nearly 30 years of experience in the news business, including reporting and editing. His online news experience includes two years as senior news editor at Netscape.
Metzger said Williams’ experience in online and Web development initiatives fit the newpaper’s strategies to offer news and information on a variety of platforms.
The Star Press is owned by Gannett Co. Inc., which publishes USA Today, The Indianapolis Star and nearly 90 other newspapers in the U.S. and its territories
