The top U.S. commander in Iraq, army Gen. David Petraeus, is a scheduled speaker during the Associated Press’ annual meeting in New York on May 7.

Petraeus will speak via a satellite interview from Baghdad.

Also on the slate: New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will participate in a panel discussion “What America Needs” moderated by AP Chairman Burl Osborne.

Petraeus took control of the U.S. forces in Iraq in February. He had served two previous tours in Iraq as commander of the 101st Airborne Division during the invasion in March 2003 and as commander of the training program for the Iraqi Army in 2004 through 2005. Petraeus was also commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

Spitzer became governor of New York in January after serving eight years as the state’s attorney general. Huckabee was the governor of Arkansas for more than a decade. He left office Jan.9 and formed a 2008 presidential exploratory committee in January.

The AP meeting coincides with the Newspaper Association of America’s convention in New York.
