The Gettysburg (Pa.) Times has selected CommunitySportsDesk to collect, organize and present user-generated community sports and recreation content to augment staff coverage in its online and print products.
Branded as timescommunitysports.com, the Gettysburg initiative will include online advertising and Web-to-print options for the Times. Startup will capture spring baseball.
“In the past, we’ve accepted results on scraps of paper, even napkins, and we’re glad to do that,” Sports Editor Josh Martin said in a statement. “Now CSD provides a very convenient and reliable way to post results and receive them for publication.”
As advertising support grows for the community sports site, a portion of revenues will flow to contributing leagues and organizations under a community-share model.
CommunitySportsDesk is a hosted Web-driven product of Media Innovations, a subsidiary of United Communications Corp., whose flagship Kenosha (Wis.) News developed CSD as Kenosha Sports Network.
CSD provides a database-driven structure to the collection and display of grassroots sporting events, creating mini-sports pages for teams and online sports sections for community leagues. It also offers back-office functionality for league administrators. At the option of the media affiliate, selected results can roll up electronically for print publication. CSD staff provides training and support.
