‘Goldsboro (N.C.) News-Argus’ Buys Roanoke Weekly

Wayne Printing Co. Inc, publisher of the Goldsboro (N.C.) News-Argus, has bought The Roanoke Beacon, a weekly paper in Plymouth, N.C.

Terms of the acquisition were disclosed.

Former Beacon owner Gary R. Cunard, who announced the sale, had owned the weekly since 1998. He also owns the Franklin Times in Louisburg, N.C.

Beacon General Manager Mary Wayt was named editor and publisher of the newspaper.

“[The] acquisition of the Roanoke Beacon reflects the confidence of the News-Argus management in the viability of the present and future of this area. We feel the Roanoke Beacon can play a significant role in supporting the growth and prosperity of the community and its people,” News-Argus Publisher Hal Tanner Jr. said in a statement.
