Lancaster (Pa.) Newspapers Inc. will add a shaftless Goss Magnapak system in May to package the Intelligencer Journal and Lancaster New Era daily (86,833 combined circulation) and the Sunday News (99,502 copies).

The 30-hopper Magnapak will cycle at up to 30,000 copies per hour. Dual-delivery capability will allow packaging of as many as 27 inserts into one jacket or simultaneous packaging of up to 13 inserts into two jackets.

Growing ad insert volumes, a need for higher productivity, and more zoning drove the decision to add the Magnapak system, according to Circulation Director Keith Kirchner.

Goss International will supply its inserter gripper delivery, an NP404 online transfer system, three NP227 hopper loaders, and Omnicon controls with the new Magnapak. Lancaster’s existing Goss NP1472 inserter also will be upgraded with Omnicon controls.
