During the 2014 Nevada Press Association Awards on Saturday, Sept. 20, Greenspun Media Group (GMG) publications Las Vegas Sun, Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas Magazine, Vegas Inc and The Sunday took home a combined 126 honors, including 54 first place awards, and GMG chief executive officer, publisher and editor Brian Greenspun was inducted into the Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our entire GMG team,” Greenspun said. “We strive all year to bring the most credible, insightful and relevant news and information to Southern Nevada readers, so to see our folks rewarded with so many awards for excellence in their craft is heartwarming and much appreciated.”
Greenspun follows his father and mother, Hank and Barbara Greenspun, into the Hall of Fame. His parents founded the Las Vegas Sun, where he now serves as CEO, publisher and editor. Under his direction, the publication was a Pulitzer Prize for Public Service winner in 2009 and a finalist in 2011. Greenspun is a former president of the Nevada Press Association and is heavily involved with University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ journalism department.
The annual Nevada Press Association ceremony praises pioneers of the local media industry, highlighting journalism, photography, illustration and design. GMG received more awards than any other media company in Nevada, exceeding last year’s count with an impressive total of 126 accolades, 54 of them being first place.
Most notable, Vegas Inc was awarded “Best Overall Design, Community” and “Best Web Site, Community.” Additionally, Las Vegas Magazine and Las Vegas Weekly were commended for “Advertising General Excellence.”
Top individual awards included Las Vegas Sun’s Jackie Valley, Vegas Inc’s Ed Komenda, and Las Vegas Weekly’s Mark Adams, each honored with “Journalist of Merit,” an award bestowed to writers with less than five years of professional experience. Additionally, Las Vegas Sun photographer Sam Morris was recognized for “Photo of the Year” and Las Vegas Weekly’s Sean Rademacher for “Ad of the Year.”
