A hacker broke into the Web site of the Lawrence, Mass., newspaper yesterday and posted phony news stories about a former female employee, according to a report in today’s Boston Herald.
“The articles about the ex-reporter appeared in the business section of the Eagle-Tribune’s site but were taken down after they were discovered,” the Herald wrote.
The story said The Eagle-Tribune Publishing Co. issued a brief statement last night: “The site was compromised. We took it down immediately and are investigating.?
The Herald speculated that the hacking may have something to do with an employee vote last week against joining a newspaper guild.
