The Hayes Center (Neb.) Times Republican managed to gets its weekly edition ready, despite having to work in the bowels of the county courthouse.
Baseball- and softball-size hail knocked big holes in the roof of the newspaper’s building last week, letting in rain that ruined the office ceilings as well.
Co-publisher Amy Frederick says the Hayes County Board of Commissioners came to the rescue. The board offered free space in the courthouse basement for Frederick, her staff and whatever office equipment they could salvage from the sopping mess.
She said Tuesday that she doesn’t know how long they’ll be working in the basement because she’s still arranging repairs with her insurer and contractors.
