Jacksonville’s Florida Times-Union and Jacksonville.com and Kansas City-based Handmark, developer and distributor of mobile applications, have announced availability of the Jacksonville.com mobile app.
The companies are also working to launch more mobile apps across all major mobile smartphone platforms for fans of Florida high school, college and pro sports.
Developed by Handmark and sponsored by Jack Hanania Automotive Family of Dealerships, the Jacksonville.com mobile app is available to download free on any iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Android, or Palm webOS device at www.jacksonville.com/mobile.
“We see the mobile medium as a huge opportunity to engage and connect with our readers in a new way,” Times-Union Publisher Lucy Talley said in a statement.
In conjunction with the mobile app’s launch, the Times-Union kicked off its “Getta Jetta” sweepstakes, giving anyone who downloads Jacksonville.com apps a chance to win a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta.
The mobile app gives users instant, 24/7 access to all the latest news, weather, sports, entertainment, traffic information, photos and more from the Times-Union and Jacksonville.com. Users can customize the app to get their preferred content fast and easily share it via e-mail, Facebook or Twitter.
