Harland Simon will provide its Prima Esprit software and an interface to ProImage’s NewsWay workflow system for the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman.
Prima Esprit will enable one operator to generate impositions across all four of the paper’s presses (a mix of Goss Metroliner units, KBA add-on towers and a full KBA press) and automate page tracking and page delivery to its ProImage NewsWay system.
The project, expected to be running live by March 2007, is the third such order in the last 12 months, following implementations at the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times and The Arizona Republic, Phoenix.
In England, Harland Simon will supply copy-counting facilities at the new Harmsworth Printing Ltd. (formerly Northcliffe Press) flagship print center at Didcot. The sale follows Harland Simon’s formation of a Post Press Solutions group.
The system will record copy counts throughout the press hall and mailroom and provide real-time displays in key areas. HPL will exploit Harland Simon’s database expertise to use the system as a data warehouse for the plants’ other computer systems, such as plate-making and stock control.
HPL Deputy Managing Director and General Manager Christine Klafkowska attributed the selection to Harland Simon’s combination of its Prima platform with her operation’s specific requirements. “Accurate, real-time copy counts are essential in our drive to minimize waste,” she said in a statement.
