Reilly Continues Negotiations With Hearst

Clint Reilly’s lawsuit to block the sale of the San Francisco Chronicle to
Hearst Corp. will not be heard in court until April 13, the Chronicle
reports.

The hearing postponement allows Reilly, who submitted a bid for Hearst’s
afternoon paper The Examiner , and Hearst to continue negotiations for a
possible deal.

Reilly, a former San Francisco mayoral candidate, sued both Hearst and The
Chronicle Publishing Co. in January, claiming Hearst’s proposed closure of The
Examiner would illegally deprive him of competing sources for news and
advertising.

Joseph Allioto, Reilly’s attorney, told the Chronicle that one issue to be
settled is whether Hearst would agree to share revenues with Reilly if he bought
the Examiner . The two papers have been running under a joint operating agreement
which shares expenses and ad revenues, but maintains separate editorial staffs.
