Honolulu Paper Restructures Newsroom

The Honolulu Advertiser has announced management restructuring that will work toward its transformation into a 24/7 newsroom combining news, video and community sites, according to an article in the newspaper.

Assistant Managing Editor Marsha McFadden has been promoted to managing editor for content and Assistant Managing Editor Sandra S. Oshiro has been named managing editor for digital and multimedia. Additionally, Assistant Managing Editor Stephen Downes was tapped as database and special projects editor, while Business Editor David Butts was promoted to local news editor; Butts will be in charge of a combined desk of metro and business reporters.

News Editor Steven Petranik was promoted to 24/7-news editor and will be in charge of updating breaking news coverage, and Photo Editor Seth Jones becomes multimedia editor.

“We are transforming the newsroom’s concentration on print to a focus that maintains the quality of the newspaper and expands our online presence,” the paper’s Editor Mark Platte is quoted as saying. “This exceptionally talented team of managers will help us get there.”
