Deadline Approaches For Sale Of Afternoon Paper
The Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported this week that Black Press Ltd.
of Victoria, British Columbia, is making a bid for the afternoon
paper, which is being offered for sale by Liberty Newspapers.
Florida-based Liberty offered the paper for sale to postpone an
antitrust lawsuit. The suit was filed after Liberty said it would
close the Star-Bulletin, ending a joint operating agreement with
Gannett Co. Inc., which owns the morning Honolulu Advertiser.
Black Press joins several other bidders, although some interested
parties have complained that there isn’t sufficient financial
information to make an informed bid. Media broker Dirks, Van Essen
& Murray is brokering the sale. The deadline for bids is today.
