‘Houston Chronicle’ Promotes Four Editors

Dan Cunningham and George Haj have been promoted to deputy managing editors at the Houston Chronicle.

Cunningham, 49, has been named deputy managing editor/news. He most recently served as assistant managing editor/sports, and has led the Chronicle’s sports department since 1989. He will now lead the news and wire desks, the Page A1 team, the Sunday paper, and the sports section.

Haj, 43, has also been named deputy managing editor/news; he most recently served as as assistant managing editor/business. In his new capacity, he will oversee the Chronicle’s local news operations, state desk, business, foreign, national, and projects staffs.

In addition, Fred Faour, 40, has been promoted to sports editor, from assistant sports editor.

Russ Shaw, 48, the Chronicle’s national editor, has been promoted to assistant managing editor/news.

Jacquee Petchel has been named assistant managing editor/projects. Petchel, 46, most recently was investigations editor for the Miami Herald.
