The Loudon Times-Mirror and Loudon Independent are merging, their owners announced.

Under the agreement between Times-Mirror owner ArCom Publishing and Independent owner M.C. Dean, the Leesburg, Val.-based papers will be run by Peter Arundel, president and CEO of ArCom subsidiary Times Community News.

The Times-Mirror will continue to be published on Wednesdays, while the Independent will publish on Fridays.

M. C. Dean President and CEO William H. Dean  will become an investor in ArCom Publishing, and will hold a seat on its board of directors, the companies announced.

“Peter Arundel is a premier publisher who understands the business, evolving demographics and where the media industry is going,” Dean said in a statement. “The merger of the Times-Mirror and the Independent is a timely and strategic move that makes sense on various levels. This collaboration will allow us to more fully develop a comprehensive, multilayered media model that fuses high-quality news content with advanced technology.”

Nicholas Graham, who had been the Times-Mirror editor at large will become executive editor of the merged papers. Amy Burns will continue in her role as Publisher of the Independent, which was founded in 2005, the companies said.
