In New Zealand, One Newspaper Apologizes to Another

By: IOL Business Report

Deputy Press Ombudsman Johan Retief has ordered The New Age newspaper to apologise to the Daily Sun for not adequately trying to get comment and to publish that comment in a story it carried.

The Daily Sun complained to the ombudsman about a story in The New Age, published on March 23, and headlined “Journalist sues Daily Sun for R7.2m”.

The story was also announced on page 1 under the headline “Journalist sues newspaper”.

The Daily Sun complained that the story was inaccurate and that neither the journalist Alfred Moselakgomo’s lawyer nor The New Age asked it for comment prior to publication.

Why is New Zealand in the headline? This story doesn’t seem to be taking place there.
